The Mortgage Broker's Nightmare

Do you work as a mortgage broker and source loans for small businesses?

How many times have you had a small business owner in front of you trying to arrange finance and when you ask them for their financials the best they can provide you with is what can only be described as a box full of mess - sorry, receipts?!!! LOL

How hard is it trying to explain to these same small business owners that a financial institution will not even consider their loan application until they get their financial records into some kind of legible order?

What if you could say to these same small business owners, "There is a way that you can get your box full of mess - sorry, receipts - into order very quickly and easily and this will give you the best opportunity you have of getting your finance application approved."?

Well, now this facility is going to be available to you - and you can hear more about it on this episode of BookPals Business Sanity.

No more boxes full of mess - sorry, receipts!!! LOL

More chance of your clients getting their loan applications approved.

More chance of you receiving your brokerage fee as a result of your clients getting their loans approved.

Do you think that BookPals will make your business life just that little bit easier?

Then have a listen to this episode of BookPals Business Sanity and after doing so, register for BookPals.

Christmas Is Over - Now What?

Ok, Christmas is over - all the relatives have gone home and everyone loved their presents and the meal you put on for them - you're all refreshed after the past couple of days off - then you jump online and check your bank balance.

Where has all the money gone?!!!!

How could we have spent so much money with the lead up to Christmas?

Is this a familiar story?

Well, you're not alone - many small business owners are confronted with financial stress at this time of year.

The problem is compounded because many of your customers - regardless of whether you sell to other businesses or consumers - may not be buying your products and/or services for another 4 weeks or so because they are taking time off themselves over this time of the year.

So, what are you to do?

One solution is to spend this time relationship building with potential clients.

But where do you find these people when all you hear on the social media sites is a lot of "white noise" but very little that gives you an indication of whether or not the people you are listening to could be potential buyers of your product or service.

This is exactly why BookPals Business XLerator has been created.

Instead of spending hours listening to employees rave about their holidays on the social media sites without a care in the world at this time of year (unless, of course, their employer has a "downsize" in 2015 - but that's another story!!!), join us in the BookPals Business XLerator Community and let's discuss actions and strategies to drive our businesses forward into 2015.

Christmas Is Only Days Away - But What Then?

Isn't Christmas time a wonderful time of the year in that you catch up with friends and family that you may not see often - and you get to celebrate the year just gone - but don't you agree that it can also be a most stressful time when you're a small business owner?

At this time of the year I often think back to a discussion I had with my father (who was a small business owner all his working life) many years ago.

Dad always closed down his shop for two weeks every Christmas time and we would go away for a holiday, however, about 10 days into this holiday he would always start getting "fidgety" about getting back to his shop.

I remember challenging him about this shortly after I started full time employment myself and it was not until I started my own small business almost 30 years later that I began to really appreciate his answer.

The discussion went something like this -

Me - "Dad, why do you only last a little over a week and then all you are thinking about is getting back to your shop?"

Dad - "Mate, you're now working for a big organization and you get your fortnightly pay each second Thursday - every second Thursday - but it's a little different for me. How often do you think I get paid while we are away on holidays?"

Me - "I know that you don't get paid while you're away, but you have a successful business, so there is always enough money for us to go on holidays - I don't see what the problem is."

Dad - "That's all well and good for you to say that, but if I spend too long away from the shop, how many customers will go somewhere else to get their hair cut (he was a hairdresser) - and I lose a customer for good?"

I recall "brushing this conversation off", thinking Dad was just getting worried over nothing, but since starting my own business back in 2006 I don't think one Christmas has gone by when I have not thought about the same thing.

Enjoy this time with your family - celebrate the "wins" and forget about the "losses" of 2014 (worrying about them is not going to change anything) - and get ready for a New Year full of more strategies and ideas to drive your business to its next level of success.

Merry Christmas.

What Is Wrong With My Website?

Are you one of those business owners that spent all that money years ago getting a website set up because you were told that it was the best way to promote and market your business and since then, it seems like this same website has been of no help to your business at all?

How long ago was it that you had this website built?

Perhaps there lies the problem - the internet and the way people interact with it has changed so rapidly that even if it was built a couple of years ago your website may now be "out of date".

So what are you supposed to do?

If you're like most business owners out there - working all day every day providing quality services to your clients - the thought of learning about how to create an effective website and how to then promote your business via this website is of no interest to you at all.

This is how you feel, but at the same time you know - deep, deep down - that if you don't start promoting your business more effectively online your competitors are going to end up with all your customers.

Well, here at BookPals we promised you that we would provide you with the hints, tips and resources you need to help drive your business forward - and this is why on today's episode of BookPals Business Sanity you get to meet Dan Norris of wpcurve.com.

Dan provides you with an insight into ways you can promote your business more effectively online and best of all, Dan is in that real "sweet spot" age wise to give you this advice - he is young enough to have grown up with the internet, but old enough so that he has seen a multitude of changes to the internet since it started and can provide you with a clear understanding of why your "old" website probably needs updating to more effectively promote your business.

Dan's no-nonsense discussion on how to effectively market your business online is just what we need to hear as business owners frustrated because our websites will not do want we want them to do, so sit back and thoroughly enjoy this episode of BookPals Business Sanity.

A Most Significant Day In The BookPals Rollout!!!

11 December 2014 will go down as a most (if not the most!!) significant day in BookPals history because this is the day that the BookPals community opened up for business!!!

That's right - the BookPals Business XLerator Community is now officially open!!

The one thing that has become obvious since BookPals started is that small business owners in particular are looking for "things" that will help make their business lives easier.

That was the reason why we started BookPals in the first place - to provide small business owners with an easy to use bookkeeping and business reporting tool to collate their financial records, but what we have found during this development is that these same small business owners are trying to find places where they can have access to all manner of resources that will make running their business easier.

And this is why we have created the BookPals Business XLerator Community.

Let me give you an idea of what you will find in there -

First of all you are going to have a place where you can get away from all the noise out there in the social media channels so that you can meet likeminded business owners to talk about things that are impacting on your business and to "bounce" ideas off one another to help drive your business to greater success.

You're also going to have a place where you will be able to announce product launches to a group of people specifically interested in these kinds of launches and you won't need to be concerned that your announcement is going to get drowned out by all the banter that goes on in the public platforms.

You are also going to be able to link your announcements to product and promotional pages you have set up on your product launch - that's right, this is not one of those "closed shop" communities where everyone "whispers" away to one another and you can never get the word out about what you're doing - we want you to use BookPals Business XLerator as a means to get people focussed on business to your landing pages - and to your business promotional pages - so that you increase the chance of more business coming your way.

You are going to be able to access all the BookPals Business Sanity podcasts from directly within the XLerator Community (don't worry - they are still accessible through the usual channels as well) and you will also have access to show notes on each episode - that are not available to non-XLerator members - so that you can download them and use them as a reference guide of all the business "gems" that you get to listen to from our fantastic guests.

It gets even better - Gordon Kay of the Adelaide Hills Business Centre has provided XLerator with his Business Owner Coaching Program notes for you to download and use as a reference guide to help drive your business forward.

If you don't know Gordon from the podcast episode we did with him, he is a successful entrepreneur in his own right and has helped hundreds of business owners across a broad range of business industries create successful and profitable businesses.

You also get direct access to Gordon within the XLerator Community, because he is an XLerator member himself and can answer questions that you have on his training notes, his coaching program, or anything else about business in general.

Best of all, you also get access to the BookPals bookkeeping software when it releases in early 2015 for no extra cost to your membership.

We are working hard to make this the easiest bookkeeping software and business reporting tool you have ever seen, so to have this as part of your XLerator membership is great value.

We are confident that the XLerator Community is exactly what you are looking for if you are a business owner looking for tools and resources to make your business life easier and I would encourage you to sign and up come in to say hi because we know that you will get exceptional value for money by doing so.

I hope to speak to you inside the XLerator Community soon.

Learn About The Most Important Education You Will Ever Get In Business

We've all heard about the importance of being "business savvy", because it is through this knowledge that we come up with the ideas and strategies we need to drive our businesses forward.

What if I said to you that this is not the most important level of "savvy" that you need in your business?

I say this because, regardless of how much "business savvy" you have, if you don't study - or understand - the financials in your business you can find that your business starts crumbling around you - regardless of how busy you are.

And this is why on this episode of BookPals Business Sanity you get to meet Emily Chase Smith of EmilyChaseSmith.com.

Emily has seen the "sad side" of business owners who have not become financially savvy because she used to work as a bankruptcy attorney and as a result of what she saw while working in this field she has now created courses and resources to help business owners become more financially savvy so that they don't find themselves on the "wrong side" of a bankruptcy hearing.

Listen to this episode of BookPals Business Sanity and after doing so, Register for BookPals so that you have access to a system that will help you collate your receipts simply and easily and allow you to become more financially savvy in your business.

Time For All That Hoop Jumping To Disappear!!

As a small business owner, think about the hoops you have had to jump through every time you've paid a visit to your bank manager asking for things like business loans, personal loans and even increases to the limit of your credit card.

All you need is a small increase in your line of credit to help drive your business forward - or to help maintain your standard of living through the "leaner times" - and when you are told how much paperwork you have to produce in order to get this finance, you start believing that you actually asked for the keys to Fort Knox!!!

What if all the records your bank manager required were little more than the click of a button away?

What if - instead of rummaging through boxes of documents trying to find your paperwork - you could give your bank manager direct access to all your financial records via the internet so that they could check everything they needed to themselves?

Well, in this BookPals Business Sanity podcast update you'll find out how - when you start using BookPals - that this is exactly what you will be able to do.

No more "hoop jumping" for money from the bank.

No more stress trying to find documentation to support your loan application.

Have a listen to this BookPals Business Sanity podcast update and then register for the BookPals launch, because BookPals really is going to make your life easier.

Ok, Time To Get A Lesson In Internet Marketing Terms

Are you a business owner who is trying to work out ways in which to get higher up the Google search engine ladder, but when people start talking to you about how to do so, it is like they are speaking to you in another language?

Your question is simple enough - "How can I get my website on page one of Google so that more people find me?" and they start talking about things like "SEO", "Black Hat", "White Hat", "Backlinks" and all these other terms that you hear people talking about all the time - but you have no idea what these terms mean.

Well, on today's episode of BookPals Business Sanity you will be pleased to know that we are talking with someone who will turn all this "Geek Talk" into something that small business owners can really understand, because today we welcome back Sean Kaye of RapidActionCentral.com.

Sean demystifies these internet marketing terms, so instead of standing there pretending you know what is being said, you can focus on whether or not the person talking to you really knows what they are talking about and how they can help you drive your business to greater success.

Get ready for a wonderful introduction into internet marketing "jargon" on this episode of BookPals Business Sanity.

Another Reason To Start Your Own Podcast

Those of you who have been following the BookPals rollout for some time now would know of the BookPals Business Sanity podcast.

You would also be aware that I have been "banging on" for a while now about why starting your own podcast can help attract more potential customers to your products and services.

I received an email today from the iTunes Podcast team that talks about new features that are being included in the Podcast App and after reading it, my first thought was "this is fantastic"!!

Let me share the email I received with you - and pay particular attention to what is said in the section titled iTunes Affiliate Program -

If you're saying "So what?" head on over to the BookPals Business Sanity podcast and have a look under each episode release - do you see the hyperlinked text that reads something like "Find Out More About BookPals Here"?

When you click on this hyperlinked text you will find that it goes to our contact page where you can download our free e-Book and be kept updated on the BookPals launch.

Are you still saying "So what"?

If you are, then let me explain - at the moment, approximately 10 to 12 people each day go directly to our podcast site to listen to our podcasts - and at the same time, we get between 120 to 140 feed hits per day from places like iTunes where people are subscribing to our podcasts and listening to each episode on their device of choice.

Until now, you were unable to have hyperlinked text in the overview of each podcast, but now you can - in other words, people can go directly to our contact page from their device of choice now instead of having to download the podcast - then listen to it - then decide if they want to find out more - then go to our website and/or podcast site - then click on the "Find Out More About BookPals Here" link - and then get access to our free e-Book and BookPals rollout update (I got tired just typing that!!!! LOL).

The easier you can make your "lead funnel" the more likelihood there is of leads converting to customers and this iTunes Podcast App enhancement will go a long way to improving your lead funnel - IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN PODCAST!!!

So get to it - start your own podcast - register it with iTunes and help drive your business forward - and don't forget, you can learn how to create your own podcast - and advanced podcast - by signing up for Sean Kaye's training on our Resources Page (both courses are towards the bottom of our Resources Page - just look for the yellow microphones there).

How Embarrassing - But All Fixed Now!!!! LOL

Have you ever been out at a function - or a social event with friends - and someone has sidled up alongside you and quietly whispered in your ear "I thought you better know - your fly is undone"?!!!!! LOL

Well, that exact same thing (metaphorically speaking of course!!) happened to me yesterday and I thought I had better let you know about it because it relates to the BookPals Business Sanity Podcast!!!

You will remember back some episodes ago that I interviewed Ellory Wells of ellorywells.com on how to turn your offline expertise into an online business.

Anyway, Ellory has his own podcast called The Empowered Podcast and I have been talking with him about being a guest on his show when the BookPals product launches.

I asked Ellory to check out the first episode of the BookPals Business Sanity Podcast way back in November 2013 so that he could have a listen to it to make sure that the BookPals story would be a "good fit" for the kind of people listening to his podcast and guess what - there was no podcast there!!!!!

I have absolutely no idea where episode one "went", but it was gone - talk about embarrassing!!!! LOL

Anyway, everything is now fixed - and I've stopped blushing!! - so if you have ever tried to have a listen to episode one before - only to find that it wasn't there - it is now!!! LOL

There's Been A Little Bit More Than Sweeping Happening In This Cleaning Business!!

We have been working with an associate of ours on a project that has really streamlined processes within her business and although it is not directly related to the BookPals project, I wanted to tell you about it because it is so indicative of what we are doing here at BookPals.

Louise Drummond runs a business in South Australia called Personal Touch Home Cleaning and over recent times she has seen a nice little increase in business growth.

As a result of this growth there has been a substantial increase in demand on Louise's time in the form of following up more leads, issuing more invoices for sales, processing more supplier payments and the like.

On top of this all the "back office" functions of the business are all very manually based, so not only did Louise spend all day providing quality cleaning services, but each evening she had to come home to issue sales invoices, pay suppliers and she also had to find time each day to chase unpaid accounts and the like.

The burden of this increase in back office tasks was really wearing Louise down and something had to be done, so we all got our "heads together" and have now come up with a wonderful solution.

Now, instead of spending hours getting details of each day's cleans from her contractors and then having to sit down to manually issue invoices, we helped Louise create a little app that automatically issues invoices as soon as the job is completed!!

As soon as the job is finished, each cleaner accesses this little app on their smart phone and registers that the job has been completed and this automatically generates an invoice to the client, an invoice for the contractor's services and advises both Louise and her bookkeeper that the job has been completed so that the sale and the contractor's invoice can both be entered into Louise's financial system.

Streamlining this process has now given Louise back hours each week that allows her to source more clients, interview more potential contractors and spend more time doing all those other things in her life that are important to her.

I've shared this story with you for one simple reason - as well as working on little projects like the one we have just helped Louise with, we are working like mad to create a product for you in BookPals to take away similar back office "drags" in your business life so make sure your register to find out when BookPals is available for you because it really is going to make your business life so much easier.

Pull In That "Net" - It's Time To Refine Your Marketing Efforts!!!

As a small business owner - particularly if you are just starting out in your business - are you casting out a really broad "net" in an attempt to get as many people to hear about your products and services as possible?

What if I said that everything you are doing is absolutely wrong and you should stop what you're doing straight away and start again?

Well, before you say "What does this boofhead know about my business" have a listen to the latest episode of BookPals Business Sanity and after listening to it, see if you still disagree with me, because in this episode we welcome back John Logar of makeeverydayapayday.com.

You would remember John from a previous podcast episode where we had a wonderful "pre-chat chat" on the dynamics of effectively marketing your business and in this episode we discuss the importance of really "niching down" when marketing your products and services to identify your ideal client and to drive your business forward.

Have your pencil and paper ready to note down some "marketing gold" notes from this episode of BookPals Business Sanity.

One aspect of running your own business that does not get nearly as much attention that it deserves is what you need to do in the unfortunate event that you find yourself embroiled in a legal dispute.

Your time should be spent on running a successful business - not on trying to find documentation to be presented in court - so have a listen to this BookPals Business Sanity update and then find out more about BookPals so that you need never worry about finding supporting evidence again.

How Important Do You Think This Is To Future Business Success?

This week has been a fascinating week that has turned into a "Perfect Storm Karma" story that I would like to share with you.

It's all based around the importance of making our children financially intelligent.

Let me set the scene for you - earlier this week I got involved in a LinkedIn discussion about the importance of making our children financially intelligent.

A member of a LinkedIn group I am involved in posted an article about the importance of making our children financially intelligent and asked for comments on the article.

Well, I got on my soapbox, because this is something I am very passionate about - I believe that it's imperative that our children become financially intelligent and I think our schools do a poor job of providing this education to our children.

Let me give you a real life example of what I am talking about - I have a 21 year old step-son and when he was around 11 years of age (my wife and I have been together since he was 6) we started buying houses that needed some "tender loving care" - we would then renovate them and later sell them for a healthy profit.

Tom (my step-son) was always included in our discussions on the buying, renovating and selling of these properties because we felt that it was important that he understood what we were doing and why we were doing it for when he grew up.

Anyway, in his last year of primary school he was asked to become part of what is called a S.H.I.P. class - S.H.I.P. stands for Students of Higher Intelligence Potential - and as part of this class all students were asked to come up with ways to generate income for the school.

Well, he came home from one of these classes quite confused one day because when he was asked what ideas he had to generate income for the school his response was "Why don't we buy some cheap houses, do them up and then sell them?"

Guess what the teacher's response was - "If you are going to make ridiculous statements like that, I won't bother asking for your input again"!!!

Tom - being Tom - just kept quiet and said nothing for the rest of the class, but when he got home and we talked about what happened he said "I don't understand what I said wrong - you and Mum have been doing this for ages".

Needless to say I was upset (mild understatement!!! LOL) and it just so happened that the following week the S.H.I.P. co-ordinator was having a parent/teacher meeting to rave about how good their curriculum was.

Guess who attended - had his say - and was never invited back to another parent/teacher meeting again?!!! LOL

Anyway, after this little debacle I made it a point of making Tom financially intelligent myself, because I had (have) little to no faith that he would get this education in our schools and it looks like what I taught him has paid off!!

Yesterday we had dinner with Tom (he lives away from home now) and he was all smiles because he has negotiated a "deal" with a hotelier he knows that will make him and his mate some nice "coin"!!

The hotel is having some kind of festival/celebration "thing" in a couple of weeks and Tom has arranged for him and his mate to set up a food stall out front of the hotel to cater for the patrons at this event.

Tom is in his last year as an apprentice chef and to hear him describe how he can get the food from their suppliers at "cost" and then make a fantastic "mark up" when they sell it to the patrons at the event warmed the cockles of my heart - financial intelligence in its rawest form - "Buy Low - Sell High" and make a healthy profit!!!!

Anyway, for the rest of the night I just sat their with this silly grin on my face, because it was so heartening to know that those lessons taught all those years ago had paid off.

What are your thoughts on the importance of our children becoming financially intelligent?

Is It Time To Be Paying More Attention To Those Rowdy Youths That Come Into Your Business?

As a business owner, how many times have you groaned when a group of rowdy, dishevelled, obnoxious youths have come into your store, rummaged through your stock and left with little more than a cursive glance at you while you were glaring at them, trying to "will" them out of your business?

What if I were to say to you that instead of trying to work out ways to get them out of your store as quickly as possible, you should be working out ways to keep them coming back to your business time and time again?

This may seem completely counter-intuitive to running a successful business, but keep something in mind - in as little as five year's time these same scruffy youths will be young adults looking for products and services just like yours.

With this in mind, do you want to be the "grumpy old shop owner" who snarled at them five years earlier, or do you want to be "the really nice old shop owner" who greeted them each time they walked in, asked them if you could help them and smiled when they mumbled "Na!!" and continued rummaging through your stock all those years ago?!!!

It's easy to forget that in the blink of an eye these obnoxious youths become our most devout customers, so if you intend to have a successful business for years to come, it makes so much sense to work out ways to have our youth embrace your products and services.

That's why in this episode of BookPals Business Sanity we are so excited to be speaking with Chelsey Marie of iamchelseymarie.com.

Chelsey Marie helps business owners successfully brand their business and at the ripe old age of 22, she is just the person you need to help you market your products and services to a younger demographic.

Our discussion is a wonderful insight into what you should be thinking about when marketing to a younger demographic, so we hope you get great value out of this episode of BookPals Business Sanity.

If you are a business owner who sells "B2B" (Business to Business) products and/or services, do you know there is one place online where almost half of all business decision makers can be found?

Well, earlier this morning I conducted a BookPals Business Sanity podcast interview with someone who has just provided me with this invaluable information.

The place where these business decision makers can be found is LinkedIn and the person who provided me with this information is Alex Pirouz of Linkfluencer.com.

Our discussion was a wonderful insight into the power of LinkedIn to market your products and/or services and I know you will get great value out of my chat with Alex when his podcast episode releases.

This podcast episode is still some ways off, but after speaking with Alex, I would be doing you a disservice if I did not let you know about a fantastic free resource Alex has created to help you "get in front" of all these business decision makers on LinkedIn.

Alex has a free video course called Discover The 3-Steps to LinkedIn Mastery and in it he outlines the most effective ways to connect with business decision makers on LinkedIn and then convert these connections into more paying customers for your business.

Nothing About Going Into Liquidation Is Pleasant - But Certain Things Have To Be Done

There is nothing about a business going into Administration or Liquidation (you may know it as going bankrupt) that is pleasant.

I know - I was employed by a company many years ago that got into financial difficulties and had to be "wound up" and the impact on the business owner's and staff's lives was devastating.

One aspect of a business going into liquidation that is often forgotten is the importance of all assets being identified and sold off as quickly as possible because this means that the business owners are left with a smaller debt to repay once the business finally closes it's doors.

Well, in this BookPals Business Sanity podcast update, you're going to hear how BookPals will help liquidators in the "wind up" process.

By using BookPals, asset records and associated documentation will be easily accessible and this will allow Liquidators to get on with the job of reducing the burden and stress already being faced by the business owners quickly and efficiently.

We hope that you are never in this situation, however, if the day comes when this aspect of business life impacts on you, we hope that this BookPals Business Sanity podcast update is of benefit to you.

Isn't It Interesting What You Need To Hear And When You Hear It?

I had a discussion with a BookPals Business Sanity Podcast guest yesterday and the information provided could not have come at a better time.

The guest was Wendy Weiss of ColdCallingResults.com and it was so ironic that our discussion took place the day that it did because only the day before I was talking with a customer of mine who needed to know exactly what it is that Wendy teaches!!

Wendy is also known as The Queen of Cold Calling and she provides coaching and training on how to effectively convert leads into loyal customers.

Our podcast interview is still some ways off (don't worry, I'll make sure that I let you know the day it gets launched), but during our discussion Wendy informed me of a resource she provides and it would be remiss (and to be truthful, quite selfish) of me not to let you know about it straight away.

Wendy's resource is called Wendy's Tip Of The Day where she provides you with daily tips on how to more effectively find and start a conversation with those people who are looking for the exact kind of product and/or service that you provide.

I would not usually announce this kind of resource until after my guest's podcast interview launched, but only the day before I was with a customer of mine who is just starting out on cold calling to attract more customers to his business and knowing that Wendy's Tip Of The Day is just what he needs to help him, I thought it best that you all know about this resource because I am certain that there are others reading this post that need this resource to help them as well.

Here is a direct link to Wendy's Tip Of The Day and you can also access it via the BookPals Resources page.

I hope that this resource helps you and happy prospecting!!!

Accountants - Time For You To Find Out Why This BookPals "Thing" Is For You!!!

As an Accountant, how often have you been confronted with little more than a shoebox full of receipts to complete a client's tax return  - and an expectation by this same client that your bill to them is going to be what they consider "reasonable"?

How unpleasant is the ensuing discussion when you explain to this same customer that your bill to them is going to be thousands of dollars - that's right, thousands of dollars - simply to get their records into some kind of order before you can even start looking at completing their tax returns?

Well, in this BookPals Business Sanity Podcast update, you're about to find out how this discussion simply goes away when you and your clients begin using BookPals.

You'll find out how, once you start using BookPals, you will be able to have your clients provide you with their data in a way that will allow you to process their returns promptly and efficiently - and all those unbillable hours will simply disappear, giving you more time to service more paying customers.

The Power Of One Letter

I was at tennis training with my son yesterday and something was said that has such far reaching implications in business that I have to share it with you.

Let me set the scene for you - my son's coach dropped a ball "short" so that he had to come in close to the net to return it and after he hit it back his coach lobbed a return over the top of his head.

As the ball went over his head my son called out "No!!!" and started running back to return the ball - but came up two steps short of being able to get to it before the ball bounced for a second time.

His coach called him over and asked him "What did you say as I lobbed the ball over your head?" to which he replied "No!!!"

His coach paused for a moment and then said "How could you have got that ball back by changing one single letter in what you just said?"

My son stared back for a minute, then dropped his head and muttered "I don't know what you mean" to which his coach replied "What would you have said if you changed the letter "N" to the letter "G"?"

Ben (my son) looked up and said "Go?" to which his coach simply smiled, said nothing more and walked back to the baseline to continue the coaching lesson.

Have a think about this comment for a moment - what images come to mind when you think of the word "Go"?

For me, the words "move" "progress" and "get to somewhere else" immediately come to mind - what words or sentences can you add to this list?

The next time you come up against a "roadblock" in your business - where the first thing that comes to mind is "No" - try changing that one single letter so the first thing that comes to mind becomes "Go!!" - who knows, a simple change of that one single letter might just help you take those "two extra steps" you need to overcome that same "roadblock".

I Have To Share This Resource With You Immediately!!!

Earlier today I interviewed Ely Delaney of Your Marketing University on how to effectively market your business - you will be able to listen to this chat on a future episode of BookPals Business Sanity and I'll make sure I let you know when it releases.

During our discussion Ely made me aware of a resource he provides that I had to tell you about straight away.

The resource is called the Website Success Kit and what it does is show you how effective your website actually is in attracting more customers to your products and services.

I wanted to let you know about this resource straight away because we all spend so much time and effort (and money!!) on our websites trying to get more business and often find that all this effort does little - or nothing - to increase our customer base.

Check out Ely's resource now and find out if your website is an effective marketing tool - or nothing more than a "wall flower" that looks nice, but does little to increase your customer base.

The Things You Hear When You Don't Expect To Hear Them!!!

Have you ever been sitting somewhere - like, for example, in the bar of a hotel - mulling over problems you are having in your business and while there, you overhear a discussion and have thought to yourself "I can't believe this - this is exactly what I need to know to fix my problem!!!"?

Well, on today's episode of BookPals Business Sanity you are going to be a part on one such discussion, because on today's episode, you get to listen to a discussion that I had with John Logar of MakeEveryDayAPayday.com before we actually took part in a "formal" podcast episode.

What would normally be a two to three minute chat prior to starting a podcast turned into over 40 minutes of absolute "business gold" when I interviewed John some time back and this preliminary discussion turned out to have so much fantastic information in it that it had to be launched as a podcast episode in its very own right.

Grab yourself a pen and paper, sit back and enjoy this "chat before the chat" with John Logar of MakeEveryDayAPayday.com.

Calling All Corporate Business Managers!!!

As a departmental manager, how many times have you had to "front" your section head - or the executive management team - to explain "blowouts" in your department's expenditure?

How professional have you looked when you are unable to explain these blowouts because your staff have failed to hand in supporting receipts to substantiate their expense claims?

While standing there, being berated by your boss for not doing your job properly, all you can think of is the number of times you have instructed your staff to send their receipts in with their expense claims, but everything you do seems to fall on deaf ears.

What if you could get access to your staff's expense receipts without them ever having to forward these receipts to you again?

What if the process was so simple, that your staff would not think twice about sending you their receipts?

Well, on this episode of BookPals Business Sanity we explain how, when your staff start using BookPals, this is exactly how easy getting your staff's expense receipts is going to be.

We hope you enjoy this BookPals Business Sanity update and remember to register for BookPals after you have listened to this episode.

Isn't It Wonderful When You Get A "Light Bulb Moment"?!!!!

Have you ever been somewhere and something is said that really makes you stop and say to yourself "That's It!!!!"

Well, last weekend we were with friends and one of these "light bulb moment" comments were made that I have to share with you.

I was out chatting to a group of business owners I know about the impending launch of BookPals and during our discussion two people - with very opposite opinions - became quite vocal on the discussion topic!!!

We were talking about using a bookkeeper to look after the reporting in your business.

The two people in question - both small business owners - were polar opposites in their opinion on this subject - one said he had always used the services of a bookkeeper to look after their financial and business records and the other said that he had not - and would not - ever use a bookkeeper to look after his business reporting.

Both parties had valid reasons why they had chosen their respective position on the subject - the "Pro-Bookkeeper" guy raised points like - using a bookkeeper gives you more time to spend working on the business, using a bookkeeper gives you more time to spend with family and friends and using a bookkeeper frees you up from an aspect of business that you don't like doing and can't understand.

The "Anti-Bookkeeper" guy raised points like - how can you understand how your business is going if you don't have a clear understanding of the financials, employing a bookkeeper is just another one of those expenses that you don't need to incur and there is always "free time" in every day where - if you stay on top of your business reporting on a daily basis - you can get this aspect of running your business done during this "free time" each day.

The most interesting part of the whole discussion (from my perspective) was that the only "common ground" both parties had was that using existing bookkeeping software is a laborious process and accounting principles (they actually said "that accounting crap!!!!) was very hard to understand.

Then the "Anti-Bookkeeper" guy made a comment that stopped everyone dead in their tracks.

He said - "Listen - How Many Bookkeepers Do You Need If There Are No Small Businesses?"

That one sentence made the whole group go very quiet until I piped up and said, "What do you mean?"

His reply was direct and to the point - "It's all well and good to be using a bookkeeper, but when times get tough - and they always do - and you need to lay people off, then if you don't know how to do your own bookkeeping, you're stuck paying someone (the bookkeeper) when this money could be better spent somewhere else in the business".

He had obviously made his point, because the other guy stood there quietly for a minute and then simply replied "fair enough" and after that, the discussion moved on to really important things like football, kids and the like!!!! LOL

I must say that this was a real "light bulb" moment for me and totally reinforced my commitment to what we are doing here at BookPals.

Don't get me wrong - I firmly believe that all small businesses should use the services of a bookkeeper, but the choice to do so should be the BUSINESS OWNER'S choice - they should not be forced to use a bookkeeper because they don't understand accounting principles - they should be able to make the choice on whether of not to use a bookkeeper once their business is at a point where they can afford to employ someone to do the bookkeeping for them.

And this is our promise to you as a small business owner - BookPals will allow you to do the bookkeeping yourself quickly and easily until you get your business to the point where you can afford to employ a bookkeeper and then - once you decide to use a bookkeeper - you'll be able to find your bookkeeper to help you right here at BookPals - and handing over your bookkeeping to them will be little more than the click of a couple of buttons.

Register for BookPals now - your life will get easier.
